Black Myth: Wukong Overseas Sales Top 50%, Yang Qi Confirms
Game Science co-founder Yang Qi has confirmed that over half of Black Myth: Wukong's sales came from overseas, leaving foreign players impressed by China's gaming soft power.
Black Myth: Wukong has officially crossed a major milestone, and it's one that has a lot of players outside China talking. Game Science co-founder and art director Yang Qi confirmed that more than 50% of the game's sales came from overseas markets.
The confirmation came during a talk at the China Academy of Art on October 29, where Yang Qi spoke about the game's performance. Word quickly spread among international players, and most of them were genuinely surprised by the number.
Think about it: China has a massive player base, so for overseas sales to account for more than half of total sales is a seriously impressive feat. Players pointed out exactly that, noting how rare it is for a Chinese-developed title to pull in numbers like this globally.
Others credited the game's success to a combination of strong quality and its unique Chinese cultural elements. According to them, Black Myth: Wukong managed to draw in players from all over the world, showing off the cultural reach and soft power of Chinese games in the process.
There's also plenty of excitement for what's next. Some players are already looking ahead to Game Science's next project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, saying that Wukong has proven what the team is capable of and hoping the new game keeps the momentum going.
So what do you think is the bigger factor behind Black Myth: Wukong's overseas success? Is it the game's rock-solid quality, the appeal of Chinese culture, or a bit of both? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know.
