Black Myth: Wukong Hits Huge Milestone as Overseas Sales Surpass 50%
Game Science co-founder Yang Qi confirms that more than half of Black Myth: Wukong's sales now come from outside China, up from around 30% in early 2025.
Black Myth: Wukong just crossed a line that few Chinese games ever reach. At an interview event held on October 29, 2026, at the China Academy of Art, Game Science co-founder and art director Yang Qi confirmed that overseas players now make up more than 50% of the game's sales. That's a big deal for a title built on Journey to the West.
If you've been following the game's journey, this number is even more impressive when you look back. Back in February 2025, at the academy's "West Lake Art Talk" event, Yang Qi said overseas players accounted for roughly 30% of sales. That was already above what the team expected. Now, about a year and a half later, that share has grown from around three in ten to over half.
The jump happened while Black Myth: Wukong's global lifetime sales passed 30 million copies. So it's not just that the pie got bigger—the overseas slice grew with it. It also suggests that players outside China are getting more comfortable with the game's heavy use of Chinese mythological terms and its deep worldbuilding.
For Game Science, this isn't just a nice stat to tweet about. It's confirmation that Wukong's global push has worked, and it gives the studio a solid reference point for how future projects might perform overseas. If you're a fan of the studio, that's a pretty encouraging sign.
What do you think of that split? Are you surprised that more than half of Wukong's sales come from outside China, or did you see it coming? Let us know in the comments.
