Black Myth: Wukong Overseas Players Now Over 50%, Confirms Yang Qi

Game Science's Yang Qi revealed that more than half of Black Myth: Wukong's players come from outside China, proving the game's global appeal despite its deep Chinese mythology roots.

Black Myth: Wukong has officially gone global in a big way. During a talk on October 29, Game Science co-founder and Black Myth: Wukong lead Yang Qi dropped a pretty huge stat: over 50% of the game's players are now from overseas.

The reveal came during a conversation between Yang Qi and Yi Xuejun, the curator of the Black Myth: Wukong art exhibition. According to the discussion, the milestone number drew strong reactions from the audience and quickly sparked widespread discussion across the gaming industry.

For a Chinese single-player blockbuster so deeply rooted in classical Chinese mythology and built on the sprawling world of Journey to the West, having more than half its players come from outside China is a serious statement. It means the game's audience has truly gone global.

Before launch, plenty of industry watchers worried that Black Myth: Wukong's dense Chinese mythological background and specialized terminology might create a barrier for overseas players. Turns out, those concerns were misplaced.

The over-50% overseas player share proves that genuinely great art can cross cultural divides. It's a milestone not just for Game Science, but for Chinese-developed games aiming at a worldwide audience.

Black Myth: Wukong is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Have you jumped into the game yet? Let us know where you're playing from in the comments!
