Yuji Horii's New Portopia Remake Gets Release Date, Nintendo Console Bonus
G-Mode has locked in March 4, 2027 for The Portopia Serial Murder Case: Forgotten Burial, a remake of the classic adventure with new story content and Yuji Horii at the helm.
Yuji Horii fans, mark your calendars. According to Famitsu, G-Mode has officially dated The Portopia Serial Murder Case: Forgotten Burial for March 4, 2027, and it's coming to Switch, Switch 2, and Steam. Physical pre-orders are open now.
If the name rings a bell, you're probably thinking of the 1983 classic The Portopia Serial Murder Case. This new project uses that legendary adventure game as its base, but it's not just a fresh coat of paint. G-Mode is rebuilding it and adding a hefty dose of brand-new storyline, so even veterans of the original will have something fresh to dig into.
Horii himself is on board as original creator and general supervisor, which should reassure anyone worried about the remake straying too far from the source material. The man behind Dragon Quest knows a thing or two about crafting a mystery, after all.
Here's the fun part for collectors: the physical Switch and Switch 2 versions come with a bonus that lets you play the original Famicom version of The Portopia Serial Murder Case directly. That's a neat piece of history packaged right in.
And if you want to go all-in, there's a deluxe limited edition. It throws in an A5 booklet and a soundtrack CD, plus brand-new packaging art illustrated by Kyoji Asano. G-Mode also shared a first look at that artwork, so you can see what's headed to shelves.
With a solid release date and a mix of old-school charm and new content, this one's shaping up to be a treat for adventure game fans and Horii devotees alike. Are you planning to grab the standard version or spring for that limited edition? Let us know in the comments!
