Unofficial Tears of the Kingdom PC Port Drops with FSR and Mouse Support

A fan-made PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom called SkyboundTOTK is out, packing FSR upscaling, keyboard and mouse controls, and some experimental extras.

Well, this is a surprise. A fan-made PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has just landed, and it's called SkyboundTOTK. Built by a modder going by NotRexed, the project is out now according to DSOGaming, and it's packing a bunch of options you won't find on Switch.

Let's start with the visuals. SkyboundTOTK supports FSR 1 upscaling, so you can sharpen the image as it scales up, and you can tweak the sharpness level yourself. But the bigger change is how you play. The port adds keyboard and mouse controls for movement, camera, jumping, running, and attacking. Compatible gamepads still work too, and there are settings for mouse capture and sensitivity. On the display side, you can switch between fullscreen and windowed mode, choose to keep the aspect ratio or stretch the image, and save your display settings.

There are also two experimental features worth knowing about. Frame interpolation generates extra frames between real ones to make motion look smoother, and the on-screen frame rate may go up, but the game's actual logic doesn't speed up because of it. Fast movement and menu screens might act weird, and it could add latency. Then there's ultrawide mode, which adjusts the view and HUD for wider screens, but it may stretch the image, and it won't work as expected on every setup.

Getting it running is no walk in the park. You'll need to grab the project from its GitHub page, build it yourself on a Windows 10 or 11 PC with the required tools, and bring your own legally obtained, already-extracted 1.0.0 base game files. The project doesn't include game files, keys, or saves, and the current code doesn't support other game versions. The build takes a while, and you'll need at least 45GB of free space on top of the game files. Expect stutters when loading new scenes and building shaders.

So yeah, it's a tinkerer's dream and a plug-and-play nightmare. If you've got the patience and the right files, SkyboundTOTK could be a fun way to revisit Hyrule on your PC. Just go in knowing what you're signing up for.
