Monster Hunter Outlanders Reveals First SSR Character Midori
Monster Hunter Outlanders has unveiled Midori, its first SSR adventurer, a graceful long sword wielder who hides her blade inside a shamisen. The open beta and her debut banner arrive October 29.
Monster Hunter Outlanders is about to open its doors, and Capcom has just shown off the game's very first SSR adventurer — and she's a long sword user with some serious style.
Ahead of the international open beta on October 29, the official team dropped a special recruitment preview. Alongside launch comes the game's first UP banner, titled "Tune of the Maple Echo" (our translation), and the star of the show is a brand-new SSR adventurer named Midori.
Here's the fun part: Midori doesn't just carry a long sword — she hides it inside a shamisen. In combat she dodges enemy attacks with moves so elegant it looks like she's putting on a full-on performance. Think less frantic monster slashing, more graceful recital with teeth.
Mechanically, she's built to take full advantage of the long sword's signature traits. Her exclusive skills let her build up the Spirit gauge faster than usual, which means she can get into her high-damage state more quickly during a hunt. The result is a character who blends slick footwork with sharp iai slashes — a combo that should feel as good to watch as it is to pull off.
If you're hoping to add Midori to your roster, you'll have a solid window to try. During the special recruitment period, her draw rate gets a big boost, and the banner runs from launch all the way to November 27 at 11:59 (Friday).
Monster Hunter Outlanders is headed to PC, Android, and iOS, with the international open beta kicking off October 29. Whether you're a long sword loyalist or just a sucker for a character with a gimmick weapon, Midori looks like one to watch.
So, are you planning to pull for Midori, or are you saving your resources for whoever comes next? Let us know in the comments!
