RTX 4070 Super Runs 4x Multi Frame Gen via Unofficial Mod

Nvidia says only RTX 50-series cards support Multi Frame Generation beyond 2x, but a mod unlocks 4x MFG on an RTX 4070 Super โ and the results feel surprisingly smooth.
Ever wondered if your older graphics card could punch above its weight class? Nvidia says your RTX 40-series GPU can't do Multi Frame Generation beyond 2x, but one PC gamer decided to test that claim anyway โ and the results are genuinely surprising.
Multi Frame Generation, or MFG, is Nvidia's AI trick that smooths out gameplay by generating up to five "fake" frames for every one frame your GPU actually renders. Nvidia first introduced 2x Frame Generation with the RTX 40-series back in 2022, but the higher MFG rates โ up to 6x โ are reserved for RTX 50-series cards. Why? Those newer GPUs pack more powerful Tensor cores and a dedicated AI Management Processor (AMP) that works with Flip Metering to deliver both rendered and AI-generated frames to your display as smoothly as possible.
Older cards like the RTX 4070 Super simply don't have that silicon. But as any PC gamer knows, official limitations are more of a suggestion than a rule. Using the ReShade HDR Installer, you can download unofficial mods that unlock higher MFG rates on RTX 40-series cards. The RTX 4070 Super officially supports only 2x MFG, but with these mods, it can be pushed all the way up to 6x.
The tester went in expecting quirks. Even on RTX 50-series cards, officially supported MFG can introduce blurry frames and latency issues, so an unsupported RTX 4070 Super was never going to be perfect. The goal wasn't flawless performance โ it was squeezing as much as possible out of existing hardware and silencing that little voice telling you to drop silly money on an RTX 50-series card.
The game roster was a bit unusual. Not every title supports even standard 2x MFG, but story-heavy games like Lost Records: Bloom & Rage and The Thaumaturge actually support up to 6x MFG. Testing stuck to single-player games only, since the unofficial mods can trigger anti-cheat detection โ no one wants a ban. All games ran at 1440p with High graphical settings, DLSS set to Balanced, and ray tracing turned off where applicable. The mod was capped at 4x MFG since not all games support 6x, and no target frame rate was set, giving the fullest picture of the highest highs and lowest lows.
So what's the takeaway? If you're rocking an RTX 40-series card and feeling the upgrade itch, unofficial MFG mods offer a fascinating glimpse at what your hardware can do when pushed beyond its official limits. It's not officially supported, and there are real risks with anti-cheat systems, but for single-player enthusiasts, it's an intriguing option.
Would you risk modding your GPU for extra frames, or is official support the only way to go? Let us know in the comments.
