Elden Ring 1.17.2 Patch Fixes Hidden Helmet Glitch and More

FromSoftware rolled out Elden Ring update 1.17.2 on October 20, a bug-fix-only patch that irons out visual glitches, status buildup issues, and credits text across all platforms.
FromSoftware dropped a new Elden Ring patch on October 20, and before you get too excited—no, it's not adding new content. Update 1.17.2 is all about squashing bugs, but if you've been running into some weird visual hiccups or annoying status effects, this one's for you. The patch is live across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, so everyone's getting the fixes.
So what's actually getting fixed? First up, there's a display bug where your character would look all kinds of wrong when wearing the Gold-Embroidered Chest Armor with the "Hide Helmet" option turned on. You know, the one that lets you show off your face without sacrificing stats—except your body decided to glitch out instead. That's now sorted.
Another visual fix involves a weird interaction between your left and right hands. If you had a crossbow skill equipped in your left hand and the Lionell Greatsword in your right, your left hand would just look off. Not anymore—the patch corrects that display issue so you can dual-wield without the ugly glitch.
There's also a fix for an unintended status buildup problem. Apparently, firing the "Bone Arrow" and "Fletched Bone Arrow" in a specific way would cause abnormal status accumulation. If you've been exploiting that (or suffering from it), consider it patched out. The update also touched up some text in the credits—because even the credits deserve to be spelled right.
Oh, and PlayStation players get a little extra love. The PS4 and PS5 versions received additional security enhancements for network functionality. So if you're on Sony's consoles, your online sessions should be a bit safer.
After updating, you'll see App Ver. 1.17.2 and Regulation Ver. 1.17.3 in the bottom right corner of the title screen. Keep in mind, this update is required for online play—so if you want to hop into co-op or PvP, you'll need to download it. FromSoftware also confirmed they'll continue supporting the game with future updates, so expect more patches down the line.
What do you think of these fixes? Have you encountered any of these glitches during your adventures in the Lands Between? Let us know in the comments!
