Dark Souls 2 and 3 Servers Down Emergency: What We Know
FromSoftware has taken Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 servers offline across all platforms after detecting a fault. Online features are down and there's no word yet on when they'll return.
If you were planning to hop into some jolly cooperation this week, you might want to hold off. FromSoftware has pulled the plug on Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 servers across all platforms, and it wasn't a scheduled maintenance window.
The studio's official player support account announced that the servers went dark starting October 30 at 16:00. The reason? A detected server fault. That means online play, player messages, and red phantom invasions are all unavailable for the time being.
So what exactly is affected? Pretty much everything that requires an internet connection. Summoning friends for a boss fight, leaving those helpful (or trollish) messages on the ground, getting invaded by a red spirit while you're just trying to light a bonfire - all of it is off the table until further notice.
Right now, there's no ETA for a fix. FromSoftware says it hasn't settled on a repair and restart schedule yet, but it promises to share an update as soon as one is confirmed. The team also apologized to players who are affected by the outage.
For those keeping track, the Dark Souls series is developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, and it's spanned multiple platforms over the years - including PC, PS4, and Xbox One for these two entries.
It's a frustrating situation for anyone who was mid-playthrough or looking to engage with the community online. The good news is that the single-player experience isn't going anywhere - you can still explore Lordran and Drangleic offline while you wait.
We'll keep an eye on this one and update you as soon as FromSoftware shares more details. In the meantime, are you affected by the outage? Let us know what you were planning to do in the comments.
