Wukong Invades Phantom Blade Zero: Black Myth Mod Swaps Soul for Sun Wukong
A new Nexus Mods release replaces Phantom Blade Zero's protagonist Soul with Sun Wukong from Black Myth: Wukong, complete with proper skeleton adaptation and two polygon versions.
Phantom Blade Zero just got a whole lot more mythical. A new mod on Nexus Mods swaps out the game's protagonist, Soul, for none other than Sun Wukong himself — the star of Black Myth: Wukong. If you've ever wanted to see the Destined One tear through the Phantom Blade universe, now's your chance.
The mod comes from creator Fiend Busa and dropped on October 30. So far it's sitting at 103 standalone downloads and 123 total downloads, with 1,470 views on the page. Not bad for a fresh release, and honestly, the concept alone is enough to turn heads.
What makes this one stand out is the skeleton work. According to the author, Wukong uses his own original skeleton and body proportions, with animations driven in real time through Unreal Engine's IK Retargeter. That means no stretched necks or shoulders clipping through geometry — the body bends naturally at its own joints. It's the kind of technical care that separates a quick swap from a proper port.
The mod replaces all of Soul's outfits, including the prologue look and the younger version of the character, and it works both during gameplay and in-engine cutscenes. Soul's head, hair, hat, robes and cloth pieces get removed, but weapons and the杀气 (killing intent) tool stay intact. You've got two versions to pick from: a full-polygon build at 877,000 faces, and a lightweight version at 211,000 faces.
Installation is about as simple as it gets. Head into your game directory under ProjectPBZ\Content\Paks\, create a ~mods folder, and drop in the three files: zzz_RyuSoul_P.pak, .ucas and .utoc. To uninstall, just delete those same three files. No fuss, no mess.
It's a fun crossover moment for two of the biggest action titles in the Chinese gaming space, and a nice bit of modding craft to boot. Whether you're a Black Myth diehard or just want to see Soul get a serious makeover, this one's worth a look.
Planning to give the Wukong mod a spin, or are you holding out for something even wilder? Let us know what character you'd want to see dropped into Phantom Blade Zero next.
