Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Special Foil Cover Skipping Asia and Japan

Nintendo's limited foil-textured edition of the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will only be available in Western regions, leaving Asian and Japanese collectors out of luck.

Well, this one stings if you're a collector in Asia. Nintendo has finally pulled back the curtain on the physical editions for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and there are two versions coming: a standard cover and a limited special edition featuring a fancy foil-stamped texture.

That special edition isn't just a cosmetic gimmick, either. It's being produced in limited quantities, and once it's sold out, that's it. No restocks, no reprints. For collectors, that instantly makes it a piece worth chasing.

But here's the catch, and it's a big one. According to third-party retail channels, only the North American and European versions of the physical release have been confirmed to use that special foil treatment. The Asian version won't include it, and neither will the Japanese version.

So if you're in Asia and you've got your heart set on that textured cover, you're going to have to look overseas. Importing the Western edition is pretty much your only option, which means higher costs, longer shipping, and a lot more hassle if you're trying to keep it sealed and pristine.

It's a strange move, honestly. Japan is where Zelda was born, and you'd think the home region would get the premium treatment. Instead, Japanese collectors are in the same boat as the rest of Asia, watching from the sidelines while the West gets the shiny version.

For now, Nintendo hasn't explained why the foil design is region-locked. It could be a production capacity thing, a licensing decision, or just plain old supply chain math. Either way, the result is the same: collectors in Asia get the short end of the stick.

If you're planning to grab the standard edition, you're fine. But if that foil cover is the whole reason you're double-dipping, you might want to start scouting import options sooner rather than later. Limited runs like this tend to vanish fast.
