Switch 2 Exclusive Onyx: The Dark Grip Revealed by Silent Hill 2 Devs

Bloober Team announced Onyx: The Dark Grip, a handheld-only Switch 2 horror game, during today's Nintendo Direct. It launches in 2027.
Did you catch that surprise during today's Nintendo Direct? Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake and Chronos: The New Dawn, just unveiled a brand-new horror game called Onyx: The Dark Grip. And here's the twist: it's playable only in handheld mode on the Switch 2. Yeah, you read that right.
Onyx: The Dark Grip is a 2.5D horror title exclusive to the Switch 2. You'll step into the shoes of Holden, a protagonist who finds himself in a desolate, fog-filled town where nothing is quite normal. (Because of course it isn't.) But the real kicker is how you play: you become "the mysterious Entity," using the touch screen to "manipulate reality." Motion controls are also in the mix to "realign reality," according to the YouTube trailer. So get ready to physically interact with your nightmares.
This project isn't entirely out of nowhere. Bloober Team has teased a Nintendo project before, previously known as Project M. And last year, the studio made it clear it wants the Switch 2 to become the scariest place in gaming. With Onyx, they're clearly putting their money where their mouth is.
Speaking of scary, the Direct had more horror in store. Capcom revealed that ports of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes are coming to Switch 2 on October 16. So if you're looking to fill your pants with fear, you'll have plenty of options.
As for Onyx: The Dark Grip, it's slated to hit Switch 2 in 2027. That's a bit of a wait, but given Bloober's track record with Silent Hill 2, it's probably worth it. Plus, a handheld-only horror game that uses touch and motion controls? That's a bold move, and we're curious to see how it plays.
What do you think? Are you excited for a horror game you can only play in handheld mode, or does the 2027 release date feel too far away? Let us know in the comments!
