Phantom Blade Zero Preorders Hit 500K, and Soulsborne Fans Are All In

Analyst estimates put Phantom Blade Zero at roughly 500,000 Steam preorders and 2.5 million wishlists, with most interested players coming from Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring and Sekiro.

Phantom Blade Zero is still a couple of weeks out, but the numbers are already looking serious. According to estimates from Rhys Elliott, an analyst at market research firm Alinea Analytics, the game had racked up around 500,000 Steam preorders as of October 20, translating to roughly $24 million in gross revenue. On top of that, Steam wishlists have climbed to 2.5 million. One important caveat: these are third-party estimates, not official figures from the developer or Steam, so treat them as a strong signal rather than gospel.

So who's actually hyped for this thing? The wishlist data paints a pretty clear picture. Among users who've wishlisted the game, 41% have played Black Myth: Wukong, 38% have played Elden Ring, and 28% have played Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In other words, the audience is basically a who's who of hardcore action fans who like their combat punishing and their bosses relentless.

That overlap makes a lot of sense given what Phantom Blade Zero is bringing to the table. Developed by S-GAME and built in Unreal Engine 5, it leans into a "kungfu punk" aesthetic with fast, blade-heavy combat. If you've been craving that Sekiro-style parry dance but with a wuxia twist, this is squarely aimed at you.

The game launches on October 29 for PS5 and PC. In China, the standard edition is priced at 268 yuan. Preorders are still open for anyone who wants to lock in before day one.

It's worth keeping expectations in check until official numbers land, but the early signals suggest Phantom Blade Zero has found its crowd. A half-million preorders and 2.5 million wishlists would be a strong start for any new action IP, let alone one going up against a very crowded fall lineup.

Are you one of the people who've already hit that preorder button, or are you waiting for reviews before diving in? Let us know in the comments.
