NVIDIA RTX Remix 1.6 Adds DLSS 5 and 6x Frame Generation

NVIDIA's RTX Remix 1.6 update brings DLSS 5 neural rendering, up to 6x multi-frame generation, and experimental Minecraft Java path tracing.

NVIDIA just dropped a big one for modders. The RTX Remix 1.6 update is here, and it's packing DLSS 5 neural rendering, up to 6x multi-frame generation, and even experimental path tracing for Minecraft Java Edition. If you're into remastering old classics, this is the update you've been waiting for.

Let's talk about DLSS 5, the star of the show. Unlike regular super resolution, it doesn't just reconstruct a higher-res image. Instead, it uses the rendered scene and game engine info to enhance lighting and materials. NVIDIA showed it off with two community remakes, Fallout 4 RTX and Mirror's Edge RTX, but stressed these aren't standalone image quality tests. Right now, DLSS 5 in RTX Remix is limited to RTX 50 series cards. NVIDIA plans to extend it to RTX 40 series after further optimization, though no timeline was given.

On the frame generation side, RTX 50 series owners can now enable 5x and 6x modes. In 6x mode, each rendered frame generates up to five additional frames. There's also a new performance mode for frame generation called Preset C.

Minecraft path tracing is a big deal too. It's available as a Fabric mod for Java Edition 1.21.1, requiring an RTX 30 series or above and driver 616.92 or newer. It's mainly optimized for the official showcase world, so other scenes haven't been tested much. Still, it's a cool step for the blocky sandbox.

Beyond that, RTX Remix 1.6 integrates ComfyUI 2.0 for AI-assisted asset creation, adds Sparse Rendering optimizations, and brings native Windows on ARM support. There's also improved performance on AMD cards thanks to adjustments in the ray tracing implementation.

So, if you're rocking an RTX 50 series card and love tinkering with old games, this update is worth checking out. What mod are you hoping gets the RTX Remix treatment next? Let us know in the comments!
