Nintendo Apologizes as Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Sells Out Worldwide

Nintendo underestimated demand for its Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 bundle, Pro Controller and case, which sold out globally. The company has apologized and is arranging restocks.
Nintendo didn't see this one coming. The company has issued an apology after its Zelda 40th anniversary goodies—including a special Switch 2 console, Pro Controller and carrying case—sold out almost instantly across multiple regions, leaving plenty of fans empty-handed.
According to Dexerto, Bill van Zyll, Nintendo's Vice President and General Manager for Latin America, spoke about the shortage in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Coelho no Japão. He made it clear this wasn't a regional hiccup—it's a worldwide problem. The company expected the commemorative products to be popular, but the actual response blew past those expectations, with the US market performing especially strongly.
The lineup includes a Zelda-themed Switch 2 with teal Joy-Cons, a gold Triforce emblem and a matching dock, all built around the series' 40th anniversary. A Pro Controller and carrying case round out the collection. The products were revealed back in September and immediately caught players' attention—pre-orders in some areas hit the supply ceiling in no time.
Van Zyll confirmed that Nintendo is now arranging restocks for the special edition hardware and related software, but he couldn't share specific arrival dates or quantities just yet. He asked fans who missed out to hang tight, stressing that the company is actively working on the situation.
So if you're one of the many who couldn't snag the anniversary gear, you're not alone—and Nintendo knows it. The question now is how fast those restocks will actually land. Are you holding out for the special edition, or did you manage to get your pre-order in? Let us know in the comments!
