Mike Tomlin's 12-Year Minecraft City Is Absolutely Stunning

Former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin revealed a massive Minecraft metropolis he's been building for 12 years, complete with hotels, aquariums, and more.
What would you do with 12 years of free time? If you're former NFL head coach Mike Tomlin, you'd build an entire Minecraft city. And we're not talking about a few cobblestone huts—this is a sprawling metropolis that would make any urban planner jealous.
Tomlin, who stepped down as the Pittsburgh Steelers' head coach in 2025 after a 19-year run without a losing season, unveiled his masterwork in a YouTube video on Wednesday. The city, which he's been meticulously hand-sculpting since 2014, is a waterfront district filled with skyrises, hotels, and apartment blocks. Each building has its own color scheme, exterior detailing, balconies, courtyards, balustrades, awnings, and plazas. It's the kind of build that makes you question everything you've ever created in Creative Mode.
In the video, Tomlin—PlayStation controller in hand—explains that his kids introduced him to Minecraft during their middle school years. While he didn't have much history with video games, he was "mesmerized by what could occupy their attention." As someone who's "always had an interest in architecture," he naturally gravitated to Creative Mode. Even after his kids moved on, Tomlin remained transfixed by the "therapeutic" act of crafting buildings and communities. "It allowed me to detach from the realities and pressures of life," he says.
The tour starts with his first completed building: a boutique hotel made from cut red sandstone with marble and birchwood walkways. It features a multi-floor executive spa with therapy rooms, a glass-ceilinged conference room, an indoor-outdoor restaurant with balcony seating, and even public restrooms with sinks and stalls recreated from cleverly repurposed Minecraft fixtures. There's also a basement speakeasy with a glowstone-illuminated window looking into the hotel pool, plus an adjacent employee area and kitchen. Tomlin clearly thought of everything.
As the tour continues, you'll see themed residential high-rises that double as aquariums, detailed bedroom interiors, recreated CVS pharmacies, baseball fields, soccer stadiums, and rooftop penthouses. Throughout, Tomlin emphasizes his focus on both function and aesthetics—considering interior lighting and what views occupants would enjoy. It's a level of detail that puts most of our dirt houses to shame.
Of course, the internet being the internet, many have noted that the years Tomlin spent building this city overlapped with the Steelers' declining playoff performance. From 2007 to 2013, the team had a 62.5% postseason win rate. From 2014 to 2025, it dropped to just 25%, with only three playoff wins and nine consecutive years without a postseason victory. His son Mayce even joked about it, tweeting: "Bro I used to come home sometimes and my PlayStation would just be gone. And I wasn't in trouble😭😭😭"
But honestly? Worth it. Have you seen how many aquariums this town has? And the good news is that this is only the first episode. Tomlin and his son Dino, who handles video production, have more tour videos planned for his YouTube channel. So if you need us, we'll be binge-watching and dreaming of moving in. What do you think of Coach Tomlin's build? Will you be tuning in for the next tour?
