God of War Greek Trilogy Remake Reportedly in the Works, Could Debut at PS6 Event

A new rumor claims Sony is developing full modern remakes of the first three God of War games, with Santa Monica Studio at the helm and a reveal possibly tied to PS6.

Kratos might be packing his blades for a return trip to Greece. A fresh batch of rumors says Sony is working on full remakes of the first three God of War games, and they could be headed to modern hardware in a big way.

According to a roundup from insider TCMFGames, chatter about the classic God of War titles coming back to modern platforms has been floating around since 2023. Back then, the talk mostly pointed to simple HD remasters or re-releases. Now, the project has reportedly been upgraded into a full, modernized remake, and it supposedly entered active production earlier this year.

The core team behind the project is said to be Sony's own Santa Monica Studio. There have been repeated whispers that Sony might bring in an outside team to help speed things along, but as the original creators of the God of War series, Santa Monica still holds the main creative reins.

Don't expect a gameplay trailer anytime soon, though. The remake is still in early development, so an official look at actual gameplay likely won't surface in the near term. That said, the team has apparently been in pre-production for several years before formally kicking off production, so there may already be a decent amount of work done behind the scenes. A full reveal of the trilogy could potentially happen around 2027.

As for timing, the rumor mill suggests Sony might wait until after God of War: Laufey ships to share details, or it could save the announcement for the official PlayStation 6 reveal event. Either way, it's the kind of stage that would certainly turn heads.
