Astro Bot Reportedly Sells 4.7 Million Copies, Raking in $291 Million
Analyst estimates put Astro Bot at 4.7 million copies sold and roughly $291 million in revenue, with physical editions making up an unusually high 46.6% of sales.
Well, it looks like Sony's little robot buddy is doing just fine. According to estimates from Rhys Elliott, an analyst at data firm Alinea Analytics, Astro Bot has now sold around 4.7 million copies worldwide, bringing in roughly $291 million in revenue.
For those who need a refresher, Astro Bot is the action-adventure platformer from Japan's Team Asobi, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It launched as a PS5 exclusive back on September 6, 2024, and clearly it's been quietly racking up numbers ever since.
Here's a stat that really stands out: physical copies account for 46.6% of total sales. That's way higher than what you'd see for most games these days. The analyst reckons there are two reasons behind it. For one, the game's family-friendly vibe makes it a perfect pick-up-as-a-gift title. For another, it's clearly struck a chord with older players who love a bit of nostalgia and collecting.
Astro Bot is what you'd call a long-tail seller, too. It's still moving more than 100,000 copies every single month, and in 2026 alone it's added about another million sales, which works out to an extra $60 million in revenue. Families, it seems, are the steady backbone keeping those numbers ticking along.
As for what's next, the analyst is just as curious as the rest of us. Elliott said he's genuinely wondering where the Astro Bot IP goes from here, and he's personally hoping for another great 3D platformer down the line. Honestly, same.
So what do you think? Are you one of the 4.7 million who've already jumped in with Astro, or are you still holding out? And more importantly, what would you want to see from the series next?
