Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Platinum Trophy Will Be Easier Than Rebirth's

Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the Platinum trophy for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be easier to earn, with about 20% of players expected to get it, compared to Rebirth's 2.6%.
Did you grind your way to the Platinum trophy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? If so, you know the pain. Only 2.6% of PS5 players managed to snag it, thanks to those brutal post-game VR boss gauntlets that demanded near-perfect play. Well, good news: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is going to be a lot kinder to trophy hunters.
In an interview with Anime News Network, director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed why Rebirth's Platinum was so elusive. "There's so much to do. There's so much content," he explained. "We wanted to make people go through all this content and perfect it. It's kind of by design that that would make it difficult." So it wasn't an accident—it was intentional. But Hamaguchi admits they may have misjudged how many players would actually want that shiny Platinum. "We also didn't expect so many people to want the platinum trophy. I think that was what we underestimated here." Battle director Teruki Endo apparently felt the same way, joking, "Oh, no! I feel bad — I have regrets."
For Revelation, though, the team is taking a different approach. "In comparison, for Revelation, the platinum trophy will be easier to get," Hamaguchi said. "In terms of how difficult it will be, we're expecting twenty percent of players or maybe even more than that to be able to obtain it." That's a huge jump from 2.6%—and a welcome one for completionists.
But don't worry, it's not just about lowering the difficulty. Hamaguchi says they've learned from Rebirth: "It's not just about the amount of battles that there are, but the battles themselves that are going to be enjoyable. I think that's one thing that we've learned from Rebirth: to make the battles themselves enjoyable rather than just challenging." So expect the optional bosses to be less of a grind and more of a good time—though hopefully still with some challenge.
We won't have to wait too long to see how these post-game battles play out. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches on February 8, 2027, for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. And even if you buy it on a disc, you'll need to download it to play—but at least you can expect it to last for more than 100 hours.
So, are you more likely to go for the Platinum this time around? Or do you prefer your trophies to feel like a real accomplishment? Let us know in the comments!
