Final Fantasy 7: Revelation Director Fires Back at Optimization Doubts

Director Naoki Hamaguchi says fans shouldn't worry about cross-platform performance in Final Fantasy 7: Revelation, revealing the team splits gameplay and optimization into separate groups.
Worried about how Final Fantasy 7: Revelation will run on your setup? The game's director has a message for you: relax.
In a recent interview with RPGSite, director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed the cross-platform performance concerns that have been swirling around the upcoming action-adventure title from Square Enix. The game is set to launch on April 8, 2027, across PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox platforms.
Hamaguchi explained that the development team operates with a split structure. One group focuses entirely on polishing gameplay content, while a separate, dedicated team handles performance optimization across all platforms. That division of labor, he says, is how they're keeping things on track.
But here's the part that clearly got under his skin. Hamaguchi admitted the team keeps up with player comments, and plenty of fans have voiced worries that the game won't run smoothly on lower-spec hardware. Those doubts, he said, left him feeling disappointed.
It's not the first time he's made this point, either. Hamaguchi has brought up the two-team setup in multiple interviews now, and he's hoping players will put their trust in what the developers are building.
So if you've been side-eyeing your aging rig and wondering whether Final Fantasy 7: Revelation will hold up, the director's answer is a pretty firm "don't sweat it." Whether that reassurance lands or not probably depends on how the game actually performs when it arrives in 2027.
For now, though, the team behind it seems confident. And with a dedicated optimization crew on the job, they'd better be.
What do you think? Are you buying the reassurance, or are you waiting for benchmarks before you get excited? Let us know in the comments.
