FF7 Revelation Gamescom Trailer: Weapons Take Center Stage

The latest trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation focuses on the massive Weapons, showing off their larger role in the trilogy's finale, plus new gameplay details.
Remember those colossal Weapons from the original Final Fantasy 7? The ones that would emerge from the depths to wreak havoc? Well, they're back and they're more than just optional bosses this time. The new Gamescom trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is all about these planet-sized guardians, and they're looking to shake things up.
Following its big reveal at Summer Games Fest, director Naoki Hamaguchi introduced the new trailer at Opening Night Live. This time, the spotlight was squarely on the Weapons. The cinematic trailer showed Rufus Shinra addressing the world after recent events, and it's clear the planet is now overrun with these kaiju-like beasts. In the original game, they were optional challenges, but here they seem to have a much bigger role in the story.
The cast's dialogue hints that the Weapons are guardians of the planet, and humans are viewed as a harmful invasive species. That's a pretty heavy theme, right? The trailer gave us a good look at Ultima Weapon and Emerald Weapon, but there might be more lurking around. We also got to see the full cast in action, including an aerial battle aboard Cid's Highwind and ground clashes with familiar foes like Typhon—aka Mr. Chupon for you old-school fans.
This final chapter in the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy—though maybe not the last game in this series—is building on what came before with new content and some fine-tuning of the open-world gameplay. One of the new features is the FITS system, which lets you equip Cloud and the gang with different roles in combat. And if you're not into side activities, minigames are more optional this time around, so you can stick to the main path without feeling compelled to play a round of cards.
For more on the game, you can check out dozens of screenshots showing off the world of Midgar, why the planetary weapons were director Naoki Hamaguchi's favorite thing to remake, and who's voicing Sephiroth this time. But for now, what do you think of the Weapons taking center stage? Are you excited to face these colossal foes in the finale? Let us know in the comments below!
