71-Year-Old's First Game Ever Is Elden Ring, Plays Daily
A 71-year-old man picked Elden Ring as his very first video game and now plays at least an hour every day. His son shared the heartwarming story online, and gamers can't get enough.
Imagine never touching a video game your entire life, then diving straight into Elden Ring at 71. That's exactly what one dad did, and the internet is absolutely loving it.
A user on social media recently shared the story of their 71-year-old father, whose very first video game is none other than Elden Ring. Yes, the notoriously punishing FromSoftware epic. Not exactly your typical starter game, right?
According to the poster, it all started with father-son gaming sessions every few weeks at his place, a way to bond and spend quality time together. But using a controller takes flexibility and coordination, and the old man faced a real challenge at first. After nearly a year of trying, he finally decided to buy his own PS5 and properly commit to the hobby.
Now he's hooked. The dad has built a habit of playing at least an hour a day, and controller inputs have become pure muscle memory. In a video, he's sitting in a chair in the living room, headphones on, gripping the controller with both hands, twisting his body and shifting his posture along with the battles on screen. He is clearly fully immersed.
His kid couldn't be prouder. The poster said they never imagined their father would come this far, and watching him stick with it has been genuinely moving.
The post sparked plenty of discussion online. Some commenters wished their own parents would fall in love with gaming. Others were stunned that the man chose Elden Ring as his entry point, calling it way too hard for a first-timer. And a few joked that the way he twists his body and swings the controller around while playing looks exactly like their five-year-old kid.
So what do you think? Is there an age barrier to gaming, or can anyone become a hardcore player at any age? Drop your thoughts below.
