WoW Forever Beta Player Killed by Campfire During Intro Cinematic

A clever griefing tactic in the WoW Forever beta killed a player during the intro cinematic by placing a campfire at the spawn point. The community is impressed, but Blizzard may patch it soon.
Have you ever died before you even got to play the game? That's exactly what happened to one World of Warcraft Forever beta player, thanks to a deviously simple griefing tactic that's both hilarious and infuriating.
Reddit user jamesja12 shared a screenshot of their character's death during the game's intro cinematic. The culprit? A campfire placed right where new players spawn. Since campfires deal damage when you stand in them, and new characters have low HP, the fire quickly finished off the poor hero before the cinematic even ended. "Someone made a campfire where new players spawn. It killed me during the intro cinematic," jamesja12 explained, matter-of-factly.
For those unfamiliar, campfires in WoW Forever are normally helpful social tools. They provide a buff when you sit next to them and can spark friendly interactions. But they also cause minor fire damage if you run through them. Placing one at the spawn point turns a cozy gathering spot into a deadly trap for unsuspecting newbies.
The WoW Forever community largely reacted with amusement rather than outrage. "This is diabolical. I love it, although it's pretty mean," one player commented. Another joked, "Brings new meaning to the term 'spawn camping.'" Jamesja12 even noted their orc was grunting during the intro, which they later realized was the damage sound. Others called it "peak classic wow" and said they couldn't even be mad.
This kind of mischief is nothing new in Azeroth. The ongoing Horde vs. Alliance conflict often leads to griefing, like high-level players raiding quest hubs. But this particular incident is orc-on-orc, which might push Blizzard to act. The Reddit post has already blown up with over 6,000 upvotes, and jamesja12 reported the bug using the in-game tool. It's likely Blizzard will patch it out soon.
Meanwhile, the WoW Forever beta has been a massive success, with Blizzard repeatedly increasing the population cap due to overwhelming demand. The official launch is just next month, and if this beta is any indication, it's going to be huge. But for now, enjoy these wild beta moments—they're part of the fun.
What do you think? Is this clever griefing or just plain mean? Will you be trying WoW Forever when it launches?
