Witcher 3 Remaster Smashes Steam Player Record

The Witcher 3's new remaster has set a new all-time concurrent player peak on Steam, reaching 123,359 players. The free update for existing owners has reignited interest in the classic RPG.
Did you hear that? The Continent is buzzing again, and it's not just because of a new monster contract. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just hit a brand-new all-time concurrent player peak on Steam, and it's a massive one.
According to SteamDB, the game reached a whopping 123,359 concurrent players just an hour before this was written. That's a huge jump from its previous peak of just over 30,000 in August. It's safe to say the recently released remaster has pulled everyone back in – whether you're a seasoned witcher or a fresh-faced adventurer.
It's been over a decade since The Witcher 3 first launched, and yet here we are, still craving more time with Geralt. The remaster, which is free if you already own the base game, has given the visuals a serious upgrade – even Geralt's bathtub transformation is shinier than ever. And if you don't own it yet, it's currently half-off during Steam's autumn sale, making it the perfect time to dive in.
When PC Gamer's Shaun Prescott reviewed the game back in 2015, he gave it a mighty 92%, calling it "a big, beautiful, sprawling action RPG full of rich stories, and suffused with an oppressive darkness." He noted that it didn't bring much that was bracingly new to the genre, but instead was "a series of refinements" – and those refinements have clearly stood the test of time.
So why the sudden surge? The remaster has not only polished the graphics but also brought compatibility upgrades for many popular mods, giving veterans a reason to return and newcomers a perfect entry point. Plus, with The Witcher 4 on the horizon, focusing on Ciri's story, there's never been a better time to revisit this classic.
Whether you're planning to start a new playthrough (and actually finish it this time) or just want to improve Geralt's fashion sense, the remaster has something for everyone. And with the game half-off right now, you really have no excuse not to jump back in.
So, what do you think? Will you be picking up the remaster and joining the hunt? Let us know in the comments!
