Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Hits Switch 2 With Sharper Visuals

CD Projekt Red's 5.01 patch for The Witcher 3 on Switch 2 brings sharper resolution, fewer crashes, and fixes across all platforms.
CD Projekt Red just dropped a fresh patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Switch 2, and it's a good day to be a handheld Geralt fan. Patch 5.01 rolled out on October 19, and most regions can grab it right now. If you're in Japan, you'll need to wait a little longer while the update clears certification, but it's on the way.
The Switch 2-specific tweaks are the headline here. CDPR adjusted image sharpening and resolution to make the picture clearer and more faithful to the original vision. If you've ever had the game crash while moving between regions, that's been fixed too. Cross-platform mod support got a caching optimization, and a weird HD rumble bug where ladder-climbing vibrations only fired on the left Joy-Con 2 has been squashed. Map pins that occasionally drifted into the black borders around the screen? Also fixed. And for those running specific configurations, the visual artifacts caused by dynamic resolution scaling should be gone.
But the patch isn't just about the new hardware. Across all platforms, CDPR made visual adjustments to bloom, tone mapping, character lighting, ray tracing, and path tracing. There are also new graphics settings for bloom, light shafts, and depth of field, giving you more control over how the world looks.
Gameplay fixes are plentiful. The 'auto-apply sword oil' feature now actually sticks around instead of resetting every session. Boats no longer go rogue and ignore terrain collision. Dodge responsiveness has been improved, and bombs can't be thrown while disabled anymore. The Exploding Shield skill now properly reflects damage, which should make that ability feel more useful.
On the UI side, the skill point popup no longer gets stuck, and the meditation screen's input prompts have stopped flickering. There's also a fix for an issue that could affect save file data, plus a remedy for saves that were already impacted. That's a relief for anyone who's sunk hundreds of hours into their save.
So whether you're replaying on Switch 2 or still roaming the Continent on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, this update has something for you. Have you noticed the visual improvements yet? Let us know in the comments!
