Wild Arms Spiritual Successor ARMED FANTASIA Cancelled After Raising ¥379 Million

Digital Bros has cancelled ARMED FANTASIA, the Wild Arms-inspired RPG that raised roughly ¥380 million in crowdfunding, recording a €17.6 million impairment loss.
Remember ARMED FANTASIA, the Wild Arms spiritual successor that pulled in millions of yen from backers? It's officially not happening anymore.
Italian publisher 505 Games' parent company Digital Bros dropped the news in its latest financial report, listing ARMED FANTASIA as one of several terminated projects. The others include Directorate: Novitiate, which was already halted back in May, and an unannounced free-to-play entry in the Battle Islands series handled by DR Studios.
The report explains the decision came after the team repeatedly tried adjusting the game's mechanics, with the company weighing changing market conditions and the extra investment needed for further development and sales. After reviewing each project's potential, Digital Bros pulled the plug and ate a €17.6 million impairment loss.
For those who missed the saga: ARMED FANTASIA was led by Wild Arms creator Akifumi Kaneko and other core staff from the series. In August 2022, it ran a double crowdfunding campaign alongside PENNY BLOOD, the Shadow Hearts-inspired project headed by Matsuzo Machida. Together they raised roughly ¥380 million, riding hard on the spiritual successor angle.
The game was originally set for a March 2025 launch before being delayed indefinitely. The team showed off the first gameplay footage in August 2025, and in March 2026 reported to backers that a version with the main scenario and core specs was complete and delivered to the publisher. At the time, WILD BUNCH Productions said publisher strategy, contracts and rights rules kept the team from sharing updates on its own.
Half a year later, the publisher's parent company simply declared it dead in a financial document. WILD BUNCH Productions hasn't publicly commented, and there's been no official cancellation notice on the project's social channels.
Shinsuke Umeda, director and producer of AKIBA LOST, weighed in on the trend: cancellations and publisher pullouts are becoming more frequent, and finishing a game properly in today's industry is genuinely getting harder. Anyone can paint a grand vision for a half-finished game, he noted, but delivering a truly complete product to players is the toughest hurdle of all.
So what happens to all that crowdfunding money now? That's the question a lot of backers are probably asking. Will you be keeping an eye on how this one gets resolved?
