Top 5 Must-Play Games of October 2026

October 2026 is packed with AAA and indie games dodging GTA 6's November launch. Here are the top 5 picks you need to play, from Ace Combat 8 to Phantom Blade Zero.

Are you ready for an October that's absolutely stacked with new games? With GTA 6 looming in November, publishers are cramming their biggest titles into October, making it a brutal month for your wallet. But don't worry—we've sifted through every release to bring you the top 5 games you need to play this October.

First up, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve takes flight on October 2 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. We gave it a 4.5 out of 5 stars in our review, and for good reason. You step into the boots of an elite pilot, engaging in cinematic dogfights with a rip-roaring soundtrack and a surprisingly good story. It's an arcadey flight sim that makes you feel like an action movie star. The online features could use some work, but it's still an easy recommendation.

Next, on October 6, Gears of War: E-Day hits PC and Xbox Series X|S. This prequel takes you back to the day the Locust Horde ambushed humanity, and it's packed with emotional moments, blood, gore, and gruff voices. For longtime fans, seeing where it all began is a must.

Also on October 6, Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you love pod-racing, this is your moment. It features a single-player roguelite campaign and online multiplayer for up to 12 people. It could easily become one of the best Star Wars games ever.

October 23 brings Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. The campaign spans international locations, brings back Captain Price, and focuses on an invasion of the Korean Peninsula with a new protagonist, Private Park. Plus, you can expect tight gunplay in both single-player and PvP.

Finally, Phantom Blade Zero arrives on October 29 for PC and PS5. After a long wait since its 2023 reveal and a delay from 2025, this action-RPG is finally here. You play as Soul, a warrior with only 66 days to live, in a world blending kung fu, steampunk, and cyberpunk. It's a unique soulslike that looks stunning.

So, which of these will you be picking up? Let us know in the comments!
