Super Mario Galaxy PC Port Announced, Proudly '100% Coded by Humans'

The modding community Luma's Workshop has fully decompiled Super Mario Galaxy and is working on an unofficial PC port called Astrocore, with a release anticipated soon.
Ever dreamed of playing Super Mario Galaxy on your PC without emulation? That dream is now closer to reality, thanks to the modding community Luma's Workshop. They've announced that the beloved Wii classic has been 100% decompiled, and an unofficial native PC port is in the works.
The project, titled Astrocore, was revealed in a video simply called "the next step…" The team showed the game running on PC and said they "anticipate a release soon." For updates, they're pointing fans to their Discord. What's more, the decompilation hit 100% just six hours after the video went live, according to a comment update.
If you're not familiar with decompilation, it's a process that reverse-engineers a game's code to create a fully functional, editable source. This allows for native PC ports that can be enhanced with mods, higher resolutions, and better performance—far beyond what emulation typically offers. It's how we've seen games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Blue Dragon finally make their way to PC.
But there's a catch: the rise of generative AI has led to a flood of low-quality, "vibe-coded" ports, such as Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart Wii, and even a Monster Hunter Portable 3rd project. This has made many gamers skeptical of new announcements. That's why Luma's Workshop is proudly waving the "100% coded by humans" flag, reassuring fans that this is a genuine, handcrafted effort.
And the good news doesn't stop there. The team confirmed that after some cleanup work, they'll move on to decompiling Super Mario Galaxy 2. So we might eventually see a PC port of the sequel—which many consider even better—as well.
Interestingly, the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata once said he never wanted tons of Mario and Zelda sequels because that's "not the kind of company I want Nintendo to be." Yet here we are, with fans taking matters into their own hands to keep these classics alive.
Will you be picking up Astrocore when it releases? Or are you holding out for Galaxy 2? Let us know in the comments!
