Space Marine 3 Is Borrowing Tech From a Zombie Shooter, Dev Says

Saber Interactive's CCO says Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 benefits from tech developed for Toxic Commando, including bigger enemy hordes and possible vehicles.
Ever wonder what makes a sequel feel like a true next-gen leap? According to Saber Interactive, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is getting a serious boost — and it's coming straight from another one of the studio's projects.
Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, has explained that the tech advancements made for Toxic Commando are carrying over into Space Marine 3. In other words, the lessons learned while building one co-op shooter are directly feeding into the next.
One of the biggest takeaways? Enemy hordes. Willits noted that the hordes in Saber's co-op shooters keep getting bigger, and that trend is clearly continuing. If you've played any of the studio's recent co-op titles, you know exactly what that means — more bodies on screen, more chaos, and more reasons to keep your bolter ready.
But it's not just about throwing more enemies at you. Willits also touched on how vehicles could play a role in Space Marine 3. That's a pretty exciting tease for fans of the series, especially since the first two games kept things mostly boots-on-the-ground. Vehicles could open up entirely new ways to play, whether that means tearing through xenos in a tank or something even heavier.
It makes sense that Saber would share tech across its projects. The studio has been building a reputation for large-scale co-op action, and Toxic Commando is another example of that focus. When you're already solving the hard problems of rendering massive crowds and keeping performance smooth, why not apply those solutions to your next big Warhammer game?
For Space Marine fans, this is a promising sign. The series has always been about the power fantasy of being a Space Marine — a towering, armored super-soldier cutting through impossible odds. If the tech from Toxic Commando lets Saber push the scale even further, Space Marine 3 could deliver the kind of battles that feel truly overwhelming in the best way.
Of course, Willits didn't reveal specific details about how vehicles will work or exactly how much bigger the hordes will get. But the direction is clear: Saber is building on what it's learned, and Space Marine 3 is set to benefit.
So what do you think? Are you hyped for bigger hordes and possible vehicle action in Space Marine 3, or do you want the focus to stay on pure ground combat? Let us know in the comments.
