Space Marine 2's Most-Played Class Revealed: Tactical Dominates

Focus Entertainment reveals the most-played PvE classes in Space Marine 2, with Tactical on top and Sniper at the bottom.
Ever wondered which class dominates the PvE battlefields of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2? Thanks to Focus Entertainment, we now have the answer. To mark the game's two-year anniversary, the publisher shared the most-picked classes over the last year, and the results might surprise you.
Tactical takes the crown with a whopping 44.4 million picks. It's easy to see why: access to melta weapons and the boss-melting Pyreblaster, plus the game-changing Auspex Scan ability that reveals and debuffs enemies. That utility is a lifesaver on higher difficulties, making Tactical a staple in many high-level groups.
Bulwark comes in second with 40.1 million picks, and as a Bulwark main myself, I'm not shocked. Its healing and recovery abilities keep the squad alive, and let's be honest, it's just plain cool. Assault lands third with 33.3 million, followed by Heavy at 30.4 million, Vanguard at 27.4 million, and Techmarine at 22.3 million.
But wait, what about the Sniper? It's missing from the top six list, and there's a good reason: it came in just behind Techmarine with 20 million picks. Focus said they wanted to highlight the top six, but poor Sniper ends up at the bottom. It's a powerful class, but its Camo Cloak and single-target focus feel out of place in a game about smashing hordes of enemies. It's fiddly to master, which likely explains its lower popularity.
Even more surprising is that Techmarine, a DLC class, beat out Sniper. That says a lot about how niche the Sniper role is. Still, Space Marine 2 does a decent job of making every class viable at most difficulty levels, so you can get by with any combo. Part of the fun is experimenting with each class's unique abilities.
Looking ahead, the Year 3 roadmap includes the Apothecary class in early 2027, so the rankings could shift. It'll be interesting to see if Apothecary can overtake Techmarine. Meanwhile, developer Saber recently admitted that Chaos enemies are tougher than Tyranids and promised to address it.
What do you think? Will you be trying out the Apothecary when it arrives, or are you sticking with your favorite class? Let us know in the comments!
