Sony PS Hong Kong Price Cuts: Nintendo Started It, Says NS Forum Mod

A Nintendo Switch forum moderator argues Nintendo, not Sony, pioneered Hong Kong store price cuts, sparking debate over Switch 2 game pricing.
Sony just cut prices on PlayStation first-party games in Hong Kong, but one prominent Nintendo fan says we've seen this movie before.
MAX峰, the moderator of the NS (Nintendo Switch) forum, sparked a lively discussion with a post arguing that Nintendo, not Sony, was the first to slash prices on the Hong Kong store. His post quickly pulled players into a broader debate about Switch 2 game pricing in the region.
In his post, MAX峰 pointed to Nintendo's earlier permanent price cuts on older first-party Switch games in Hong Kong, making the case that Nintendo beat Sony to the punch on Hong Kong store discounts.
Not everyone in the comments agreed, though. Plenty of players pushed back, noting that the examples he cited were all original Switch-era titles. When a console reaches the end of its life cycle, permanently discounting older first-party games is just standard industry practice, they argued. They pointed out that similar cuts happened with PlayStation Hits on PS4 and with first-party 3DS games late in that handheld's life.
The real flashpoint is current-gen pricing. Take Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, an upcoming Switch 2 title. It's priced at 499 HKD on the Hong Kong store and $70 in the US. Compare that with Sony's current approach: a game that costs $70 in the US is listed at just 388 HKD on the PlayStation Hong Kong store. That's a pretty big gap, and it's why many players feel Switch 2 games are priced too high in Hong Kong.
So the question stands: did Nintendo really set the precedent for Hong Kong store price cuts, or is this just the usual end-of-generation discounting that every platform holder does? It's a fair debate, and both sides have receipts.
What do you think? Did Nintendo start the Hong Kong price-cut trend, or is Sony just doing what everyone does eventually? Drop your take in the comments.
