Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Season 2 Hands-On: EVA and Godzilla Collide

We went hands-on with Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Season 2 at TGS 2026, featuring EVA and Godzilla collabs, new tracks, racers, and a 1v1 Rival Duel mode.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has spent the past year living up to its name, throwing together a wild crossover roster that somehow makes sense on the track. Hatsune Miku racing alongside SpongeBob? Steve from Minecraft trading paint with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? It's all happening, and honestly, it's glorious.
That ambitious IP-mashing approach only gets more exciting as Sega rolls out Season 2. At TGS 2026, we got some early hands-on time with the new content, and the headliners are none other than EVA and Godzilla. Yeah, you read that right.
The biggest surprise isn't the characters or themed cars—it's the two new tracks: "Godzilla Escape" and "Tokyo-3." Both are packed with clever nods to their source material, and they deliver the kind of visual spectacle you'd expect from giant monsters and mechs duking it out in a city.
What really sells these tracks is how the chaos unfolds around you. As you zip through the streets of Tokyo-3, Angels and EVA units are locked in battle. In Godzilla Escape, the big G himself is busy flattening the city while you and your rivals tear up the asphalt. You'll feel the scale of these titans firsthand, and it's awesome.
The details are spot-on, too. You'll spot a Hakone-Yumoto sign in Tokyo-3, and Godzilla Escape is littered with rubble from his rampage. The dev team clearly loves these franchises, and it shows. But these aren't just background decorations—they actively mess with your race. In Godzilla Escape, you'll have to dodge under Godzilla's foot at one point, and near the finish line, he'll block your path with an atomic ray. Get hit, and you're stopped dead, potentially costing you the win.
It all adds up to an incredibly immersive experience. I genuinely felt like I was inside the worlds of EVA and Godzilla, weaving through danger while chasing that adrenaline rush.
Asuka and Rei join the roster as playable characters, along with three sleek EVA-inspired karts colored after Unit-00, Unit-01, and Unit-02. Godzilla isn't playable, but you can drive three new vehicles modeled after Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah—each with distinct designs and handling, perfect for mixing and matching with any character.
Season 2 also introduces a new "Rival Duel" mode. Pick a character as your rival and face them in 1v1 races across different tracks. Beat all the challenges to unlock that character—like Bayonetta, who was shown in the demo. For a game where characters are the main draw, this mode is a dream come true for fans.
If this hands-on is anything to go by, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds continues to prove that its crossover game is strong. As one of Sega's few long-term live-service titles, it might just carve out a totally unique lane in the racing genre with quality collabs and steady updates.
