The largest difference between a short and long Sinking City 2 playthrough is not the number of story chapters. It is how deeply the player investigates each location.

## Locations are layered mysteries

The game uses semi-open areas with rooms, locked paths, documents, environmental puzzles, and smaller tasks. A player can follow the main objective quickly, while another player reads every document and uses the investigation board to connect clues.

## Backtracking is part of the design

New routes can open after completing an investigation or finding a key. Backtracking adds time, but the map and completed-room indicator can reduce wasted travel. Search rooms when the story gives you a reason to return, not every time you walk past them.

## Puzzle assistance

Turning assistance on can shorten the time needed to identify important words and clues. Turning it off increases the deduction challenge and can add several minutes to a difficult investigation.

## Combat interruptions

Combat encounters can also extend a run through retries. Higher difficulty, limited resources, and unfamiliar enemy types make some locations slower even when the story objectives are the same.

Use 8–12 hours for a focused route, 10–15 hours for a normal first playthrough, and roughly 14–16 hours for a thorough run. These ranges explain the difference better than one single number.

The game's length is part of its pacing: it gives each haunted location enough time to become a mystery without requiring an enormous open world.
