Silent Hill Composer Akira Yamaoka Brings Daughter in Hinako Cosplay to Comic-Con

Akira Yamaoka appeared at San Diego Comic-Con Málaga with his daughter, who cosplayed as Silent Hill f protagonist Hinako Shimizu, and performed a Silent Hill concert plus a fan panel.
Legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka just showed up at a comic convention, and he brought a very special guest: his daughter, dressed as Silent Hill f's own protagonist.
San Diego Comic-Con Málaga held its second edition from October 1 to 2, 2026, at the FYCMA convention center in Málaga, Spain. Yamaoka was one of the biggest game-industry guests on the bill, taking part in a dedicated concert and a fan panel. His daughter came along too, cosplaying as Hinako Shimizu, the lead of Silent Hill f.
If you haven't met Hinako yet, here's the quick version. She's a high school girl living in a remote Showa-era town. On the surface she's a typical teenager, weighed down by the expectations of her parents, friends, and society. The cheerful kid she used to be has been bottled up, and she struggles to express what she feels.
But calling her "fragile" would be a huge mistake. Unlike past Silent Hill leads who often feel powerless against the monsters, Hinako flips the script the moment she picks up a weapon, showing off some seriously impressive combat chops. That's why fans have nicknamed her Silent Hill's strictest mother.
On Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m., Yamaoka took the stage in HALL M for "Echoes from Silent Hill: Live in Concert with Akira Yamaoka," performing some of the series' most iconic music live. The next day, Friday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m., he returned for a Silent Hill-themed panel, where he shared stories from more than thirty years of creating.
Yamaoka joined Konami in 1993 and handled composition and sound design for the original Silent Hill in 1999. By blending industrial rock, ambient music, trip-hop, and experimental sound design, he completely changed how horror games use audio. Starting with Silent Hill 3, he stepped up as series producer, becoming one of the IP's most central creative figures. In 2010 he joined Grasshopper Manufacture, working on titles like Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, and Killer is Dead, and later contributed music to The Medium, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and Silent Hill f. His work has long outgrown games themselves, reaching tens of thousands of fans through worldwide concert tours.
So, did you catch Yamaoka's concert or panel at Málaga? And what do you think of Hinako's combat-ready reputation? Let us know in the comments!
