Resident Evil Hits 218 Million Sales, Capcom's Undisputed Champion

Capcom's flagship horror franchise has now sold 218 million copies worldwide, with Resident Evil Requiem leading the charge at 8.51 million and the remakes still pulling their weight.

Capcom just dropped its latest financial numbers, and surprise surprise, Resident Evil is still sitting on the throne. As of the end of September 2026, the series has racked up 218 million copies sold worldwide, keeping it firmly at the top of Capcom's franchise pile.

That's a jump of about 5 million units in just three months, up from roughly 213 million at the end of June. Not bad for a franchise that's been scaring us silly for decades.

So what's driving the surge? A mix of new blood and old favorites. Resident Evil Requiem has been doing serious work since launch, now sitting at 8.51 million copies sold. Meanwhile, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 keep chugging along like the reliable workhorses they are. Between July and September, Resident Evil 4 Remake moved another 354,000 copies, bringing its lifetime total to 17.15 million. Resident Evil 2 Remake added 206,000 in the same window, pushing its cumulative sales to 20.38 million, which still makes it the best-selling single entry in the whole franchise.

And let's not forget Resident Evil 7, which has quietly climbed to 18.87 million copies. The Baker family horror show just keeps finding new victims.

Over on the rest of Capcom's leaderboard, Monster Hunter holds second place with 132 million copies, while Street Fighter rounds out the podium at 60 million. The rest of the top ten shakes out like this: Mega Man at 45 million, Devil May Cry at 42 million, Dead Rising at 19 million, Ace Attorney at 15 million, Dragon's Dogma at 14 million, Marvel vs. Capcom at 13 million, and Onimusha at 11 million.

It's a pretty clear picture of a company that knows how to keep its back catalog alive. Whether you're a longtime fan replaying the classics or a newcomer jumping in with Requiem, there's never been a better time to be scared.
