Reporter Slams Xbox Over Physint Star Casting Amid Layoffs

A games journalist has criticised Microsoft for funding Hideo Kojima's Physint and casting Bill Skarsgård while the company continues to lay off developers.
Well, this one's got the industry talking. PlayStation has officially ended its partnership with Kojima Productions on the espionage project Physint, and almost at the same time, Kojima Productions announced it's expanding its collaboration with Xbox. The game, which Hideo Kojima has described as his life's work, will now be pushed forward under the Microsoft banner.
That news alone would've been big enough. But then Xbox revealed a new update on Physint and confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will star in the game. And that's when games industry journalist Kiwi Talkz weighed in with a pretty controversial take.
Kiwi Talkz said he simply can't get behind what Microsoft is doing here. His argument? Microsoft is still cutting game developers in large numbers, yet it's turning around and putting money behind Kojima, with budget going toward bringing Hollywood talent on board. In his view, the optics are terrible.
He pointed out that while tons of regular developers are dealing with the fallout of layoffs, the company is prioritising resources for a celebrity actor. That kind of trade-off, he said, is hard to swallow.
It's a tension that's been bubbling under the surface of the industry for a while now. Studios are tightening belts and letting people go, but big-budget projects with star power still seem to get the green light. Whether you agree with Kiwi Talkz or not, it's a conversation that's not going away anytime soon.
For now, Physint is moving ahead with Xbox, and Skarsgård is attached. But the debate over how those resources are being spent is clearly just getting started.
What do you think? Is it fair to call out Microsoft here, or is this just how big-budget game development works these days? Let us know in the comments.
