Prison Architect 2 Resurfaces With New Beta After 2-Year Silence

After two years of quiet, Prison Architect 2 is back with another closed beta in September. Here's what we know about the long-delayed sequel.
Remember Prison Architect 2? The sequel that was supposed to launch back in 2024 but kept slipping? Well, after more than two years of mostly silence, there's finally a glimmer of hope. Paradox Interactive has announced another closed beta for September, and it might be the sign we've been waiting for.
If you've been holding your breath since the indefinite delay in 2024, you're not alone. The game was originally slated for a 2024 release, then pushed to September of that year, and then delayed indefinitely. But now, a new closed beta is on the horizon, and while the sign-up sheet is already closed, it's a clear signal that development is still alive.
The beta is scheduled to run from September 9-15, but here's the catch: testers will be required to sign an NDA. So don't expect any juicy details to leak out. Still, the fact that Paradox is actively seeking testers suggests they're making progress, even if they're keeping things under wraps.
For those who might have thought the game was canceled, this move should put those fears to rest. Back in August 2024, Paradox issued a statement saying, "we need more time to improve both the game's performance and its content," and offered refunds to preorders. Since then, the game has been off the market, leaving fans in the dark. But this new beta could be a step toward finally setting a new release date.
The original Prison Architect has been around for over a decade, available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and even iOS. The sequel, which is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, has a lot to live up to. And while we're still waiting for a concrete launch date, this beta is a promising sign that the wheels are turning again.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to dive back into the world of prison management, or has the long wait made you cautious? Will you be picking this up when it finally drops? Let us know in the comments!
