Nintendo's New Switch Bundle Could Threaten Sony's PS2 Record

Nintendo is launching a 199.99-euro Switch bundle with a physical Mario Kart 8 Deluxe cartridge in Europe, as it clears stock before halting hardware supply in 2027.

Nintendo just quietly dropped a bundle that could end up giving Sony some sleepless nights.

According to Nintendo Life, the company is rolling out a seriously tempting hardware package in Europe, and the goal is simple: clear out the remaining stock of the original Switch before it bows out for good. The bundle pairs the first-generation Switch console with a physical cartridge copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, priced at 199.99 euros. It launches on October 29, 2026.

Here's the detail that actually matters. Plenty of bundles in the past have handed you nothing but a digital download code, which feels a bit like getting a gift card instead of a gift. This time, Nintendo is tossing in the actual physical game card. That alone makes the whole package punch way above its price tag, especially for anyone who still likes having a box on the shelf.

There's a bigger reason behind the fire sale, though. As previously announced, Nintendo will stop supplying the entire Switch family of hardware to European distributors starting in February 2027, thanks to the EU's new replaceable battery regulations. Rather than redesign a console that's closing in on a decade on the market, Nintendo is simply pulling the plug and shifting its full attention to the next-gen Switch 2.

With only a few months left before that supply cutoff, Nintendo is clearly in a hurry to move the consoles still sitting in warehouses, and bundles like this are the cleanest way to do it.

Nintendo Life also notes that this promotion could push total Switch sales closer to the PS2's roughly 160 million lifetime units. Nintendo itself may not be obsessed with topping that record, but you can bet players are watching the numbers very closely. Every discounted console sold nudges the Switch nearer to one of gaming's most legendary milestones.

So if you're in Europe and you've somehow never picked up an original Switch, this might be your last genuinely good chance. A console plus one of the best party games ever made, on a cartridge you actually own, for under 200 euros? That's not a bad way to say goodbye to a generation.
