Nintendo Rolls Out Switch 2 System Update 23.0.1 to Fix Lag

Nintendo has pushed firmware 23.0.1 to all Switch and Switch 2 consoles, a targeted patch that fixes the sluggish game startup, suspend, and shutdown issues left over from version 23.0.0.
Nintendo just dropped a fresh system update, and if your Switch has been feeling a little sluggish lately, this one's for you. The company has officially rolled out firmware version 23.0.1 for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and it's all about smoothing out the rough edges.
This isn't a flashy feature-packed patch. It's a targeted fix aimed squarely at the problems leftover from the previous 23.0.0 update. If you've been noticing your console acting a bit off since that last version, you're definitely not alone.
Plenty of players had been reporting that after jumping to 23.0.0, games started feeling weird. Specifically, launching a game, suspending it to the background, or closing it out could trigger slow responses and unusually long load times. That kind of stutter is exactly the sort of thing that quietly ruins a play session.
According to Nintendo, the 23.0.1 patch zeroes in on that core bug. It optimizes how the system schedules software and handles its overall running logic, which should make starting and stopping games feel noticeably smoother and more stable. In other words, the whole flow of hopping in and out of your games gets cleaned up.
The good news is you don't have to do much to get it. As long as your console is connected to the internet, the update package will download and install automatically. If you'd rather take matters into your own hands, you can head to the Settings menu on your home screen and manually check for the system update yourself.
It's a small patch, but it's a welcome one. Nintendo clearly noticed the complaints and moved quickly to address them, which is a good sign for anyone spending hours on their Switch or the newer Switch 2. A smoother console is a happier console, after all.
So, have you already grabbed 23.0.1? Notice any difference in how fast your games boot up and close down? Let us know in the comments.
