Murals Twists Classic Fairy Tales into a Wild Action-Adventure

Dlala Studios unveils Murals, a twisted take on fairy tales like Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty, coming to PC in 2027.
Ever wondered what it would be like if Rapunzel's hair had a mind of its own and was out to get her? Or if Sleeping Beauty just couldn't catch a wink? Well, wonder no more, because Dlala Studios—the folks behind Disney Illusion Island—just dropped a trailer for their new game, Murals, during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Murals is an isometric action-adventure that throws you into the middle of classic fairy tales like Hansel and Gretel, The Little Mermaid, and Rapunzel, but with a seriously silly twist. It's not your grandma's bedtime story, that's for sure. For instance, Rapunzel's hair is actively trying to kill her, and Sleeping Beauty is dealing with insomnia so bad she hasn't slept in weeks. Talk about a bad dream.
You'll step into the shoes of a nameless hero, fighting through these twisted tales with the help of Eeries—described as "mystical, slightly very haunted, doo-dads and whatchamacallits." These little gadgets boost your abilities in creative ways. Some, like Strength In Misery, beef up your weapon so you deal extra damage to enemies with status effects. Others, like Thorny, give you a passive edge, like occasionally damaging any enemy that dares to hit you.
This is Dlala's first original IP in over a decade, and it looks like a wild ride. They're known for their work on Battletoads and the charming Disney Illusion Island, so they've got a knack for blending humor with solid gameplay. Murals seems to be taking that to a whole new level with its quirky take on beloved stories.
The game is set to launch on PC in 2027, so we've got a bit of a wait ahead. But hey, if the trailer is anything to go by, it might just be worth it. Are you excited to see fairy tales get the silly action-adventure treatment? What twisted version of a classic story would you love to play? Let us know in the comments!
