Kojima's Physint Leak: New Mech Designs Look Just Like Metal Gear
Kojima Productions' 10th anniversary exhibition in Japan showed off new Physint mech statues that strongly resemble Metal Gear REX and GEKKO, plus a bust hinting at multiple timelines for Bill SkarsgĂĄrd's character.
Well, this is a blast from the past. Kojima Productions just held a 10th anniversary exhibition in Japan, and among the displays were several new mech design statues for Physint — and they look suspiciously familiar. Like, Metal Gear familiar.
First up, there's a photo of a mech that looks almost identical to Metal Gear REX from the very first Metal Gear Solid. If you squint, you might think Kojima never left the franchise. Next to it stands a bipedal machine that bears a striking resemblance to the GEKKO from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It's like a greatest-hits tour of Kojima's mechanical legacy.
Then there's a bust featuring several character likenesses. Look closely and they appear to be different versions of the protagonist played by Bill SkarsgĂĄrd. GamingBolt, which spotted all this, suggests this could mean the story spans multiple points in the character's life. That's a neat way to structure a spy thriller, right?
The report also notes that Kojima has previously said Physint's story is "ready," and you can even see a physical script at the exhibition (bottom right of the image). He's described the game as a "different kind of spy action" title. GamingBolt also cites Xbox CEO Asha Sharma saying the game's budget is "significantly lower" than a AAA blockbuster. Interesting — a Kojima spy game that doesn't cost the moon? We're listening.
Now, before you get too hyped, a quick reality check: there's not a lot of solid info to analyze here. It's unclear whether these designs are mainly concept guidance or will actually appear in the game, and Kojima Productions hasn't revealed much officially. So take it all with a grain of salt — but it's hard not to speculate when the mechs look this familiar.
What do you think? Is Kojima secretly remaking Metal Gear in all but name, or is this just a fun nod to his past? Drop your theories in the comments.
