Humankind 2 Revealed: Climate Change Is Now Your Problem

Amplitude Studios unveiled Humankind 2 at Gamescom, promising deeper cultural evolution and a climate system that forces you to face long-term consequences. Coming to PC in 2027.
Remember Humankind, the ambitious 4X strategy game that let you rewrite history? Well, it's getting a sequel, and this time, you can't ignore the weather.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Amplitude Studios dropped the first trailer for Humankind 2, and it looks like your civilizations are about to face a whole new kind of challenge: climate change. Just like the original, you'll start from scratch and guide your people through the ages using diplomacy, military might, and tech. But now, the environment is a living, breathing threat.
The studio says they've taken all the feedback from the 2021 game to heart. Expect new progression systems, enhanced visuals, a modernized UI, and a bunch of gameplay tweaks. But the big headline is cultural evolution – it's getting deeper. In each era, you'll adopt a culture that shapes your identity, unlocking exclusive customs through expanded progression trees. You can stick to historical paths, but with new stories from around the world, why would you?
Here's the twist: the climate is now a major player. Weather systems will transform the map over time, so you'll need to adapt or suffer. It's not just about short-term gains anymore – you'll have to weigh immediate growth against consequences that could haunt your civilization for generations. Talk about tough choices.
Humankind 2 is set to launch for PC in 2027. That's a ways off, so if you haven't tried the first one yet, it's currently 90% off on Steam until September 8. That's a steal for a deep strategy game.
Will you be picking up Humankind 2 when it drops? Or are you still conquering the world in the original? Let us know in the comments!
