Guild Wars 3 First Look: Combat and Movement Impressions

We got an early peek at Guild Wars 3's combat and movement systems. Here's what we learned from game director Colin Johanson.
Have you been dying to know more about Guild Wars 3? I know I have, so when we got the chance to see it in action and chat with game director Colin Johanson, we jumped at it. The game isn't ready for a full reveal yet, but we did get a taste of what's to come.
The combat in Guild Wars 3 feels fresh yet familiar. It's clearly built on the foundations of Guild Wars 2, but with some new twists that make it stand out. The team is focusing on making each profession feel unique, and from what we saw, they're succeeding. The action is fast-paced and responsive, with a real emphasis on positioning and timing.
But the real star of the show was movement. If you've ever played Guild Wars 2, you know that moving around feels great, but Guild Wars 3 takes it to another level. The new movement system is fluid and joyful, making traversal a pleasure in itself. Whether you're gliding across chasms or leaping between platforms, it's clear that the developers are putting a lot of love into making every step count.
We also got to see how these systems work together in a live environment. The demo showed off a dynamic event where players had to use both combat and movement to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies. It was a nice showcase of how the two pillars of gameplay support each other.
Of course, there's still a lot we don't know. The game is early in development, and many features are subject to change. But what we saw left us optimistic. The team at ArenaNet seems to be listening to player feedback from Guild Wars 2 and building on it, rather than starting from scratch.
Will Guild Wars 3 live up to the hype? It's too early to say, but the foundations look solid. If you're a fan of the series, this is definitely one to keep an eye on. What are you most excited to see in Guild Wars 3? Let us know in the comments!
