GTA 6's New Honor System: Can You Handle the Consequences?

GTA 6 is adding an honor system that tracks your criminal behavior, with profiles from Professional to Psycho. But cross the line and there's no turning back. Here's what we know.

Ever wondered what it'd be like to be a true villain in GTA? Well, GTA 6 is about to make that choice a lot more interesting. Rockstar is borrowing a page from Red Dead Redemption 2 and adding an honor system that could change how you play.

Your actions in the game will feed into a criminal profile that evolves with you. Think of it as a reputation meter, but for crime. You can be a Professional, or if you're more trigger-happy, you might end up as Aggressive, Violent, or even Psycho. But there's a catch: push it too far and you'll hit a fifth, unnamed state that's basically a point of no return for your villainy.

In an interview with YouTuber TGG, GTA 6 co-head of development Rob Nelson explained that there's no right or wrong way to play. "Just a bit more choice now. How do you want to play this game if your actions may have some impact on things? You can still cause as much chaos as you want if that's what you want to do," he said. So, the freedom is still there, but now your choices might have lasting consequences.

What does that mean for the story? We don't know yet, but we'd bet that being a homicidal loose cannon won't lead to a happy ending. The idea is that you can alternate between profiles or replay the game to aim for different states. Plus, both Jason and Lucia will have their own separate profiles, so your choices with each character could lead to different outcomes.

But that's not all. GTA 6 is also adding other realism touches, like NPCs reacting to you carrying weapons in public, cars being trickier to steal, and yes, you can throw dog poop at people. On the flip side, they're removing one of the most annoying legacy features: no more mashing a button to sprint from cops. Thank goodness.
