GTA 6's Advanced Weather: Hurricanes Coming?
Game Informer confirms GTA 6 will feature advanced weather simulating Florida's less sunny phenomena, sparking speculation about hurricanes in Leonida.
Ever wondered what it'd be like to outrun a hurricane in GTA 6? Well, you might soon find out.
Game Informer just confirmed that GTA 6 will be its cover story this month, and the 14-page feature includes exclusive interviews and screenshots. Among the juicy details: the game will have "advanced weather systems that simulate Florida's less sunny weather phenomena." That's a direct quote, and it's got everyone talking.
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional version of Florida, so it makes perfect sense to include the state's notorious storms. But what exactly does "advanced" mean? Could we see full-blown hurricanes that reshape the map, or just some heavy rain and lightning? The tease suggests Rockstar is finally ready to show off what its weather tech can do.
If you've played Red Dead Redemption 2, you know Rockstar loves dynamic weather. That game had intense thunderstorms with scary lightning, big wind gusts, and dark clouds, plus snow and dust storms in certain areas. So it's clear the studio likes to make worlds feel alive and add unexpected challenges. But a hurricane in a modern-day open world? That's a whole new level of ambition.
Imagine driving through Leonida when suddenly a storm surge floods the streets, or you have to take shelter from flying debris. It could change the map, create unique gameplay obstacles, and really stir things up. Of course, pulling that off outside of a scripted mission would be a huge technical feat. Rockstar has been tight-lipped about weather plans until now, possibly because they were still fine-tuning the systems.
We'll know more soon: Game Informer's story goes live tomorrow, September 29. And if you want even more details, IGN's own preview from earlier this summer has plenty. As for another trailer? No word yet, but hopefully it won't be too long.
What do you think? Are you ready to face a hurricane in GTA 6, or should Rockstar keep it simple? Let us know in the comments!
