GTA 6 Won't Let You Buy Property, and Here's Why That Makes Sense

A newly surfaced Rockstar interview confirms GTA 6 players can't buy real estate — Jason and Lucia will rely on temporary hideouts instead, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2's camps.
Well, this is a bit of a surprise. If you were already planning your GTA 6 property empire, you might want to pump the brakes.
According to IGN, a full interview with Rockstar Games from this past August has now been made public, and while it doesn't shake up much of what we already knew, it does drop one juicy detail: you won't be buying houses in GTA 6. No sprawling mansions, no beachfront condos, no rental income rolling in while you're out causing chaos.
So what's the deal? It comes down to the story. Jason and Lucia are on the run, which means they're not exactly in a position to stroll into a real estate office and sign paperwork. Instead, they'll bounce between various temporary hideouts to catch their breath and lay low.
If that setup sounds familiar, you're not imagining it. Rockstar is apparently taking a page from Red Dead Redemption 2's camp system. Your hideouts will be places where you can actually slow down and do some everyday stuff — kick back on the couch, watch some TV, or hop in the shower. Little slice-of-life moments between the big heists.
You'll also be able to handle some basic grooming on your own, like shaving yourself. But if you want a full-on makeover, you'll still need to head to a barbershop for the real deal.
Honestly, it's a design choice that fits the vibe. Rather than letting you snap up a luxury safehouse and call it a day, Rockstar seems to want the living situation to reflect the fact that Jason and Lucia are fugitives looking over their shoulders. It keeps the pressure on and the story grounded.
That said, we still don't know if some other kind of property system might open up later in the game — Rockstar hasn't said either way. So don't rule anything out just yet.
What do you think of the no-property approach? Are you going to miss building your own real estate empire, or does the hideout setup sound like a better fit for Jason and Lucia's story? Let us know in the comments.
