GTA 6 Reportedly 30 FPS Only at Launch, Even on PS5 Pro

A new report claims GTA 6 will run at 30 FPS on all consoles at launch, including PS5 Pro, with no 60 FPS mode planned initially. Rockstar may add performance options post-release.

If you were hoping to cruise through Vice City at 60 frames per second on day one, you might want to sit down for this one. A new report from Insider Gaming suggests GTA 6 will launch with a 30 FPS cap on all current consoles—including the PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Yeah, we're not kidding.

The rumor mill has been churning ever since a Rock and Borys podcast episode claimed a 60 FPS mode was "very possible" for GTA 6. But here's the catch—they also hinted it might not be available right at launch. That little detail is starting to look pretty significant.

Rockstar North's lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson seemingly backed this up. In an interview with Kotaku, he stated that the game currently runs at 30 FPS on consoles. He also mentioned that he'd still need to chat with the technical team to figure out whether a 60 FPS option would be available at launch or down the line. Nelson emphasized he doesn't know the resolution or ray tracing details just yet—but for now, it's 30 FPS.

So yeah, Insider Gaming is pretty confident: don't expect a 60 FPS mode when GTA 6 drops. That said, Rockstar could always patch one in after release. Fingers crossed, right?

Digital Foundry also weighed in after the game was showcased via Netflix. They noted that the footage provided to Netflix and YouTube (also available on Rockstar's official site) was a 30 FPS video. While there are issues with that approach—console output is 60 FPS, so a video only accurately reflects gameplay if the game perfectly maintains 30 FPS—the key takeaway is that developers felt it was good enough because the game's target frame rate is 30 FPS. According to Digital Foundry, that's now "100 percent confirmed."

They also stressed that additional graphics settings could be added after launch. So while 30 FPS seems to be the launch reality, there's still a sliver of hope for future performance modes.

Insider Gaming's conclusion? GTA 6 will almost certainly launch at 30 FPS. Don't hold your breath for other frame rate options before release—even if more modes come later, they'll likely arrive post-launch. What do you think—are you okay with 30 FPS for GTA 6, or were you hoping for a smoother ride? Let us know in the comments!
