GTA 6 Rated M: Nudity, Violence, and Everything Else You Expected

GTA 6 has been rated M for Mature by the ESRB, confirming blood, gore, nudity, and more. PEGI has also given it an 18 rating. Here's what we know.
Did you really expect GTA 6 to get anything less than an M rating? The ESRB has officially slapped the game with a Mature rating, and yes, it includes nudity. Rockstar updated the store pages with the rating, confirming what we all knew was coming.
The rating cites "blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, use of drugs and alcohol." So basically, it's a GTA game. Over in the UK, PEGI has given it an 18 rating as well, so no surprises there.
We're still waiting on the ESRB's full breakdown, which usually details specific scenes and content. That could give us hints about story elements and gameplay. Fans have been speculating whether Jason and Lucia will have sex on-screen, and the detailed breakdown might finally settle that debate.
Rockstar has a history with this stuff. Back in the mid-2000s, GTA: San Andreas got re-rated to AO after modders uncovered a hidden sex mini-game. That led to a recall and government scrutiny. Since then, GTA 4 and 5 let players pick up sex workers and have intercourse in vehicles. So far, it's unclear what sexual content GTA 6 will have beyond strip clubs.
The ESRB rating also mentions "in-game purchases." Rockstar said earlier this summer there are "no monetizations in this game," which suggests no microtransactions. But that likely refers to the Ultimate Edition upgrade that gives extra cosmetics, stores, and missions. Rockstar hasn't said anything about GTA 6's online mode, but it's not expected to launch alongside the game this year. The online portion is rumored to debut in 2027, and given how much money GTA Online made, microtransactions are probably inevitable.
GTA 6 is now in its final push, with less than 50 days until launch. Rockstar has put up signage in Miami, sent swag boxes to influencers, and announced a $400 collector's set that drew controversy for not including the game. We've got extensive coverage of GTA 6 across IGN, including an interview with Rockstar Games, a preview, and word of the first confirmed voice actor.
What do you think about the M rating? Will you be picking up GTA 6 on day one? Let us know in the comments!
