GTA 6 Isn't Even Out Yet and Fans Are Already Dreading the Next Wait

With GTA 6 finally landing this November after a 13-year gap, players are already doing the math on how long Rockstar's next big game could take — and the numbers aren't pretty.

GTA 6 isn't even out yet, and fans are already stressing about the next Rockstar game. That's how long this wait has been.

Think about it: GTA 5 dropped back in 2013. GTA 6 is set to arrive on November 19 this year. That's roughly 13 years between mainline entries, making it one of the longest sequel gaps in gaming history. So yeah, it's only natural that players are now asking a slightly depressing question — how long until the next one?

The big worry is what happens after GTA 6 launches. Some fans fear Rockstar will repeat its old playbook: pour the bulk of its resources into keeping GTA Online running with years of updates. And if a story DLC gets added to the mix, the gap before the next full single-player game could stretch even further.

One player put it pretty bluntly, joking that if Rockstar does make story DLC — which they actually hope happens — we might not see another single-player title for a very long time. Their half-serious guess? Maybe GTA 7 in 2040.

It's not a totally baseless fear, either. After GTA 5 launched in 2013, Rockstar kept a huge amount of its attention on GTA Online, which has now been running for over a decade and continues to bring in serious money. Meanwhile, GTA 6's own development cycle ballooned well beyond what anyone expected.

So if GTA 6 ends up getting the same long-term live-service treatment, plus a possible story expansion, the wait for Rockstar's next big single-player project could be painfully long. Right now, nobody in the community has a clear answer on when that might be.

Some players figure that even if GTA 6 lands smoothly, we could still be waiting five to seven years just for solid news about the next game. The more cautious predictions push things out to somewhere around 2032 to 2035.

And as for what that next game actually is? No official word yet. It could be GTA 7, or it could be Red Dead Redemption 3. A chunk of the community is actually betting on Red Dead Redemption 3 coming first, rather than Rockstar jumping straight into another GTA.
