Grand Blue Marksman Guide: Unlock, Equip, and Master

Learn how to get the Marksman Fighting Style in Grand Blue, find the right Captain Esopo, unlock skills, and equip it from your Wardrobe.
Trying to pick off enemies from a distance in Grand Blue? The Marksman Fighting Style is your ticket, and it's not too hard to get—though you'll need to be careful about who you talk to. Here's how to unlock it and make the most of its skills.
First, you need to find the Marksman trainer, Captain Esopo. He's in Maple Village, which is north of the starting area. Head through the docks and make your way to the Rocky Shores area in the top-left of the island. You'll spot him near the shore, but watch out! There's another Captain Esopo at the beach, and that one's a boss, not your friendly trainer. How to tell them apart? The trainer has a red question mark above his head; the boss doesn't. If you accidentally run into the boss and die, don't worry—just respawn and make your way back to the right NPC.
Once you've found the correct Captain Esopo, talk to him and pick the dialogue option about learning to aim as well as he does. He'll ask for 1,000 Gold to teach you the Marksman style. Pay up, and the style is yours—it'll be equipped automatically and added to your unlocked Fighting Styles.
But that's just the start. To unlock all the skills and passives for Marksman, you need to complete Captain Esopo's questline. After you've bought the style, talk to him again to start his quests. It might take a while, but it's worth it for a full ranged arsenal.
If you switch to another Fighting Style later, don't worry. You can always go back to Marksman. Just open your Wardrobe—it's on the 2nd floor of the house near the Nessa NPC in Anchor Town. There, you'll find the Fighting Styles section, select Marksman, and you're back in business.
Got questions? Here's the quick rundown: Marksman costs 1,000 Gold. Captain Esopo is in Maple Village, along the rocky path near Beast Wreckage. And no, the boss and the trainer are separate NPCs—you only need to talk to the trainer to unlock the style.
